Lake Phoenix – making the ugly beautiful

20 years before one of the most ugly places in German Ruhr Area was the place of steel producing in Dortmund. Big smoke clouds turned the heaven and their dust everything else dirty. After shut down of this business and ignoring the ground for a few years some people made something very beautiful out of it: Lake Phoenix.

Lake Phoenix is an artificial lake and meanwhile the place to be on sunny day in Dortmund.

With the ground to be removed to create a lake a small viewpoint has been created:

Animals are happily living next to some sailing boats.

Even some Art has been assembled over there

I always love to be there or even in one of the nice restaurants or coffee shops nearby

Beside the very famous castles and palaces like Neuschwanstein there are all over the countryside little ones… and one of them I visited this week: Schloss (=castle) Paffendorf.

Paffendorf is a very small village 50 kilometers away from cologne with only 1250 habitants.

The castle as build between 1531 and 1546 in renaissance style. As you can see it is surrounded by a moat which should help to keep invaders away.

Additionally walls all around the castle have been established in order to increase the safety of the castle-residents.

Within the walls there is not only the castle but also a beautiful park with nice views like this:

Here some German river Rhine impressions; this time we visited the middle Rhine area.

Actually there are not many bridges, you have to use the ferry for going to the other side of the river instead…

The town are in a very nice old style

Nature is just beautiful over there

a lot of old beautiful castles are along the river…
